Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Mushroom and Leek Tart

Yesterday Mum & I bought some Purple Sprouting Broccoli......

Now what? Soup? Plain old boil it and serve with meat and potato?
It was time to try something new.
We (well I) have pledged to make use of all the cookery books we own more often.
That being said it was far easier to grab the iPad and google broccoli to see what was suggested, love it!

Mum came across this one by Celia Brooks Brown on the BBC Good Food site.
Mmmmm we had puff pastry and most of the ingredients that were required
although not all, so now we have a new recipe with our own added extras that we're sharing here today!

Say Hello to our Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Mushroom and Leek Tart.

Ingredients

1 pack Purple Sprouting Broccoli
7 or 8 Mushrooms
2 Leeks
1 portion of Puff Pastry
1 egg
2 egg yolks
1Tbsp Cream Cheese
Splash of Milk
Cup of Grated Parmesan
Handful of Grated Cheddar
Salt & Pepper
Worcestershire Sauce
Olive Oli
Sprinkling of Polenta

serves 4

Pre heat oven to 180 or 200 fan.
Wrap a baking sheet with baking/greaseproof paper
Sprinkle with a small amount of Polenta.

Roll out the Puff Pastry 0.5cm thick into whatever shape your heart desires, mine was a slightly wonky square, it fitted the baking sheet so that was ok by me.
Score a line 2cm from the edge, prick the inside with a fork and transfer it to the baking sheet.

Gently fry your sliced mushrooms and leeks in a spot of olive oil adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce for about 5 minutes. The aroma of the W.Sauce makes even your 10 year old get excited for dinner time. But only for the few seconds until he realises it's leeks and mushrooms...sigh!
Spread the veg onto the pastry evenly up to the scored line.

Pop into the oven for 10 minutes. The edges will rise wonderfully.

Meanwhile blanch the brocolli for a minute of so, then refresh with cold water.
Whisk together the eggs, cream cheese, milk, parmesan and seasoning in a bowl.

Layer the broccoli over the leeks and mushroom after their 10 minute blast.
Lower the oven to 160 or 180 Fan.
Spoon over the eggy mixture and sprinkle extra cheddar on the top

Pop back into the oven for another 20 mins after which time you should have a bubbly slightly brown cheesiness going on - yum!

We ate this with salad :)
 ....and wine

Enjoy!

Nerves

Hi all!

Please don't forget to leave a comment on this post to be in with a chance of snagging the gorgeous Sew Somerset magazine. The draw will take place on Tuesday.

It's been a rollercoaster weekend here at Mum & Dads house!

Kieran was "star of the week" at school and got a mention in the newsletter, yay!
I transferred all the upcoming events into my calender, there's a lot to look forward to. A Hog Roast, Young Voices, Art club, Football club etc. etc.

Jim drove up to join us Friday evening in anticipation of Kierans 11+ exam which took place Saturday morning. I felt sick to my stomach for him and was probably the most nervous!
Results in a month or so...... however I'm to understand they get placed not a specific pass or fail, we'll see.
He felt pretty crappy after so we all went out for a spot of retail therapy and lunch at Frankie & Benny's in Rugby.
The rest of the weekend was spent walking around the village and helping Mum & Dad with a pre move sort out.

I'll leave you with a few photos taken over the last few days :)

These last 3 taken with the Olloclip Macro, the B&W woodlouse shots taken by Kieran.

Distress and In My Postbox!

Hi all!
Please don't forget to leave a comment on my previous post to be in with a chance of snagging the gorgeous Sew Somerset magazine.

It's been a lovely day here, I hope you're getting some lovely sunshine too!
So first up is yesterdays #FMSphotoadaySEPT, the prompt being In My Postbox.
Well as you may know Kieran and myself are "bunking" at my parents as he started his new school this week, fingers crossed we'll be in our new home within a few weeks.
So the point being my parents postbox is what I have to play with here.
Having a bit of fun with this one, this arrived in their post (I kid you not!)

A Saga Brochure - Childish *snigger*

I will post a better photo and some details on THE distressed chair at some point but here's a wee shot

And finally for today a quick shot of a young buddleia plant with the olloclip macro lens.
I love the fact that only after I focused, did I spot the weeny fly!!!
This proves that either the lens is the absolute best and/or I'm blind as a bat...

Father

Tune in tomorrow for Homely Creativity's first giveaway!

Veeeery quick post this morning just to document yesterdays #FMSphotoaday which was Father.
Jim was having none of it so I used a shot taken back in June of my father and child!

A million things to do this morning, Kieran & I are travelling up to the Midlands this afternoon.
School starts tomorrow!!!

Me, Now.

Shudder, thanks FatMumSlim for yesterdays first prompt for September.
No natural light, grainy night shot smoothes out untold amounts of wrinkles ha ha ha!

I hope you had a more exciting day than me. Laundry, 11+ practice, sorting part of the loft and plenty of couch potato action which involved Paralympics & US Open Andy Murray.
Not complaining though, a bit of rest was needed.

One thing I did discover today was that Maison du Monde are online (where have I been?)

and amongst a zillion other items I need this
and this

and Kieran quite fancies one of these!

 Have a good Sunday!

September, Hidden and Blue Moon

I love the t'internet.
If it wasn't for the internet I would have never found out that last nights full moon was indeed a "Blue Moon" as in "once in a blue moon" The reason? Last nights was the second full moon in the month and that doesn't happen very often! Brilliant! So, was it actually coloured blue??? Well I just had to run out the front door clutching my phone hoping to get a shot. I had a couple of mins to wait as it was hiding behind clouds....
what do you think? (no manipulation - honest)

@nasagoddard shared this info on Instagram and twitter, here is his (or indeed hers, I have no idea!) much better photo!

To my delight I also remembered (very late) that the #photoadayaug for yesterday was "Hidden" so I'm submitting my moon pic for that too (insert smug grin here)

So I'm sharing FatMumSlim's #FMSphotoadaySEPT list for September if you fancy joining in.

Have a great Saturday!
I will mostly be fighting for the TV to watch the Paralympics ha!
